BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 11 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in South Dakota Friday.
None of the new cases are in Brookings County.
Brookings County cases remain at 4,234 total cases: 4,191 of those people have recovered (down by one), with six active cases (up by one) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,103 people have tested negative in Brookings County (19 new), and 137 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.
The county is in the “moderate” community spread category.
There are no COVID-19 occupied hospital beds at the Brookings Hospital, the SDDOH website reported Friday.
The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,343 (11 new – 10 confirmed and one probable) as of midday Friday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.
Of the statewide cases, 221 are classified as active (down by nine from Thursday). As of Friday, 122,096 people have recovered (17 new), 6,959 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 34 people are currently hospitalized (down by one) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,026 people with COVID have died (no change).
The SDDOH website reports 359,576 people (354 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.
The SDDOH website reported midday Friday that 670,319 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 359,119 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.
In Brookings County, 27,179 vaccine doses have been administered to 14,712 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Thursday, 41.9% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 49.3% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.
The SDDOH reports 55.7% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 50.8% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
