19 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths reported in South Dakota Monday

BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 19 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in South Dakota Monday.

None of the new cases are in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases were reduced by one to 4,234 total cases: 4,193 of those people have recovered (one new), with four active cases (down by two) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,164 people have tested negative in Brookings County (14 new), and 136 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

The county is in the “minimal” community spread category.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,411 (17 new confirmed and two new probable) as of midday Monday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 154 are classified as active (down by 11 from Thursday). As of Monday, 122,230 people have recovered (29 new), 6,907 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 31 people are currently hospitalized (up by three) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,027 people with COVID have died (no change).

The SDDOH website reports 361,411 people (247 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

The SDDOH website reported midday Monday that 678,769 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 362,554 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

In Brookings County, 27,474 vaccine doses have been administered to 14,817 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Monday, 42.2% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 49.7% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOH reports 56.2% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 51.6% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
