BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 36 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in South Dakota Tuesday.

None of the new cases are in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases remain at 4,234 total cases: 4,194 of those people have recovered (one new), with three active cases (down by one) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,189 people have tested negative in Brookings County (25 new), and 136 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

The county is in the “minimal” community spread category.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,446 (34 new confirmed and two new probable) as of midday Tuesday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 151 are classified as active (down by three from Monday). As of Tuesday, 122,268 people have recovered (38 new), 6,893 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 26 people are currently hospitalized (down by five) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,027 people with COVID have died (no change).

The SDDOH website reports 362,130 people (719 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

The SDDOH website reported midday Tuesday that 681,803 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 363,868 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

In Brookings County, 27,589 vaccine doses have been administered to 14,854 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Tuesday, 42.3% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 49.8% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOH reports 56.4% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 51.8% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
