10 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday

BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 10 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in South Dakota Wednesday.

None of the new cases are in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases remain at 4,235 total cases: 4,191 of those people have recovered (no change), with seven active cases (no change) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,137 people have tested negative in Brookings County (seven new), and 137 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

The county is in the “minimal” community spread category.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,382 (10 new confirmed) as of midday Wednesday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 170 are classified as active (down by 16 from Tuesday). As of Wednesday, 122,186 people have recovered (21 new), 6,925 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 28 people are currently hospitalized (down by one) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,026 people with COVID have died (no change).

The SDDOH website reports 360,801 people (315 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

The SDDOH website reported midday Wednesday that 675,359 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 361,096 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

In Brookings County, 27,378 vaccine doses have been administered to 14,789 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Wednesday, 42.2% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 49.6% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOH reports 56% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 51.3% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
