BROOKINGS – Get ready! South Dakota’s first-ever statewide giving day kicks off at midnight on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27, and continues until 11:59 p.m. that night.
What’s a Giving Day? It’s one day that nonprofits can highlight their work, and donors across the state can celebrate generosity by giving to their favorite organizations. Twenty-two nonprofits in Brookings County are participating and have registered with South Dakota Gives – the organization coordinating the statewide #ForSouthDakota campaign.
The participating nonprofits in Brookings County are extending the South Dakota Gives campaign with coordinated efforts they are calling #BrookingsGives. Throughout the month, watch for volunteer spotlights and opportunities, plus more information from the 23 #BrookingsGives nonprofits.
“We are excited about the way the non-profit community in Brookings is coming together for the Day of Giving,” said Kelly Gibson on behalf of South Dakota Gives. “We’re looking forward to following your collective work!”
South Dakota Gives will award donations and incentives to the registered nonprofits from the South Dakota Prize Pool, a truckload of money donated from individuals, businesses and foundations who believe in South Dakota – and the future of our state. And the fun and prizewinning has already begun.
The Brookings Regional Humane Society has already won $1,000 through one of the social media contests for participating nonprofits leading up to Nov. 27, and Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program won $2,500.
“South Dakota Gives asked for one word that describes how philanthropy furthers our mission, and we chose ‘Change,’” said Darla Biel, BCYMP’s executive director. “We are changing lives through our mentoring program, and this gift from the #ForSouthDakota campaign will definitely make a difference for us and the K-12 students we serve.”
South Dakota Gives will not take a percentage of donations received through its site, but acts as a platform from which to launch excitement and the ability for registered non-profits to showcase their volunteers and passion for meeting the needs in their community. Every cent donors give, goes to the organization they choose to support.
How can donors participate? Follow South Dakota Gives on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and support favorite registered nonprofits by tagging them and using the hashtags #ForSouthDakota, #SouthDakotaGives and #BrookingsGives in posts. Donate to your favorite Brookings nonprofits on Nov. 27 through their link on SouthDakotaGives.org and/or consider setting up a matching donation or prize that the 23 organizations participating in #BrookingsGives can win.
