BROOKINGS – SDSU Extension along with University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University will host the Northern States Beef Conference Dec. 12-13, 2018, in Watertown at the Watertown Event Center (1901 9th Ave SW).

“This year’s program is filled with great speakers sharing practical information with cattle producers that can be put to use on their beef operations,” said Julie Walker, Professor and SDSU Extension beef specialist.

The beef conference will include a series of presentations that will focus on improving cattle health and reducing death loss through developing a good health program.

Russ Daly, professor, SDSU Extension Veterinarian, state public health veterinarian, will visit about the role vaccines play in the health of young beef cattle.

Grant Dewell, Iowa State University associate professor in Beef Production and Extension Beef veterinarian, will address the maternal immunity.

Gerald Stokka, NDSU Extension livestock stewardship specialist and veterinarian, will focus on a stewardship approach to calf health.

Jim Robb, director of the Livestock Marketing Information Center, will provide his perspective and insight on trends in the cattle and beef markets. His presentation offers a “big picture” view of the status of the U.S. beef marketing that impacts beef producers bottom-line.

There will also be a trade show featuring vendors from across the region.
