November Rotary Students of the Month honored

BROOKINGS – Brookings High School seniors Kate Ropp and Julia Schubert were honored as the Brookings Rotary Club’s November Students of the Month.  

Ropp is the daughter of Susan and Mike Ropp of Brookings. Some of her in-school activities have included: orchestra, band, choir, jazz strings, jazz choir, jazz band, NHS, soccer, thespians, and musical pit. Outside of school, she is involved with the South Dakota Youth Symphony, church bell choir and Praise Team, community band and theater, club soccer, STARS, Meals on Wheels, Humane Society, and Habitat for Humanity.  

Her honors and offices have included: National Merit semifinalist, Presidential Scholar nominee, AP Scholar, SDHSSCA Academic All State Team Trumpet Section Leader, Thespian Secretary, South Dakota Honor Choir, and South Dakota All State Band.

Ropp plans to attend New Mexico State University to major in animal science. 

Schubert is the daughter of Darius and Vanessa Schubert of Brookings. Some of her in-school activities have included: National Honor Society, marching band, concert/symphonic band, jazz band, Thespians, choir, jazz choir, German Club, Environmental Club, and Board Game Club. Outside of school, she has been involved with Junior Honor Choir, Senior Honor Choir, All-State Choir, Regional/National Honor Choir, and as a Farmer’s Market volunteer. Her honors and offices have included Thespian historian, band section leader, First Chair (Band), and Outstanding Jazz Vocalist.

Schubert's college plans are to study music education and performance.

Each month during the school year, the Brookings Rotary Club recognizes two students who excel in exhibiting their motto “Service Above Self” and fulfill the ideals of the Four-Way Test: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
