Off-ramp, intersection closures planned

BROOKINGS – The northbound off-ramp at Interstate 29 Exit 132 in Brookings will close for approximately 21 days starting Monday.

Closure of the ramp will allow crews to regrade and pave the ramp. Signs will be in place routing traffic to Exit 133.

The I-29 southbound on-ramp at Exit 132, which was closed Aug. 1, is scheduled to re-open on Monday. The contractor was able to complete this work in just 13 of the allotted 21 days required to re-open this ramp.

The south side of the intersection of 32nd Avenue at Sixth Street will be closed tentatively Tuesday or Wednesday, Aug. 15 or 16, for about one week while crews install underground utilities.

Once this intersection is re-opened, the south side of the intersection of Lefevre Drive at Sixth Street will be closed for approximately one week for the same type of utility work.

Signs will be installed routing traffic either to Lefevre Drive during the 32nd Avenue closure or 32nd Avenue during the Lefevre Drive closure.

The public is invited to attend weekly meetings to discuss progress and sequencing.

Meetings are held at 9 a.m. every Thursday at the Department of Transportation building located at 2131 34th Ave. in Brookings.

Interim completion for the project is Nov. 3, which includes Phases 0-2. Overall field completion date is June 30, 2018, which includes Phase 3.

The prime contractor on this $16.37 million project is BX Civil & Construction of Dell Rapids.
