Olsen wins Region 1B

WEBSTER – Deubrook Area’s Ellie Olsen won the girls’ race at the Region 1B Cross Country Meet on Wednesday.

The Dakota Hills girls and Warner boys took the team titles.

The top three teams and top 20 individuals in both races qualified for the Class B State Cross Country Meet, to be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at Broadland Creek in Huron. The boys’ race is at 1 p.m. and the girls’ race is at 2:30 p.m.

Girls

Olsen, a freshman, posted a time of 20 minutes, 28.22 seconds.

The Grizzlies totaled 15 team points to claim the crown. James Valley Christian (24) and Great Plains Lutheran (41) were second and third, respectively.

Estelline/Hendricks was fourth with 43 points but qualified three individuals and is eligible for the team title at the state meet.

The defending Class B-champion Dolphins ended up sixth at 44.

Dakota Hills’ Victoria Zirbel (20:31.56) and Madison Zirbel (20:53.44) were second and third, respectively. Great Plains Lutheran’s Halle Bauer (21:07.06) and Iroquois/Doland’s Avery Miles (21:21.28) rounded out the top five.

Jesade Siverson paced the Redhawks, taking 14th in 21:56.81.

Kaylee Johnson (21:59.41) was 15th and Sadie Johnson (22:06.66) 17th.

Deubrook’s ElleAnna Hansen advanced after finishing 18th in 22:16.91.

Boys

Cody Larson took the 5K title with a 16:47.75 clocking while leading the Monarchs to the team crown with 25 points.

Northwestern (31) was second and Tri-State (34) third.

Estelline/Hendricks also had 34 points but lost a tiebreaker – fastest fourth runner (Tigers 28th and Redhawks 30th) – while taking fourth.

Deubrook Area (35) ended up fifth. The Dolphins put five runners in the top 20 and are still eligible for the state title.
James Valley Christian’s Daniel Ayoroa was runner-up in a time of 17:47.34.

Estelline/Hendricks’ Riley Benning placed third in 18:05.5.

Northwestern’s Justin Haven (18:33.59) and Warner’s Ben Wirth (18:34.03) crossed in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Parker Crooks paced Deubrook with an 18:48.03 clocking, putting him in eighth.

Mason Ramlo finished 13th in 19:26.56. Payton Moe (19:38.03) was 17th, Dartanian Lehman (19:38.84) 18th and Shiloh Koch (19:40.15) 19th to also advance.

The Redhawks’ Justin Buschenfeld qualified for state, taking 10th in 19:19.

Camden Hobbs (20:03.94) was 23rd, Dallis Trego (20:25.09) 30th and Manuel Martinez (20:28.12) 31st.
