Omey Olson, 88, of Hendricks, Minnesota, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Sanford Canby Medical Center in Canby, Minnesota. 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Singsaas Lutheran Church in rural Hendricks, Minnesota. Burial was in the Hendricks City Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was Monday at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel, Hendricks. 

Omey James Olson was born on Aug. 19, 1929, in Hendricks, Minnesota, to parents Benjamin and Ida (Ness) Olson.  He attended rural country school and worked on the family farm.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from Sept. 29, 1951 until his honorable discharge on June 25, 1953.

Omey married Margaret Yackley on June 25, 1955, and they had five children. Together they raised their family on the farm.  Farming was a lifelong passion for Omey along with buying and selling farm machinery for countless years. Omey enjoyed picnics at the Hendricks Park and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Singsaas Lutheran Church and the Rueben-Hansen American Legion Post 195 of Hendricks.

He is surived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Olson of Hendricks; his children: Cheryl (Mike) Boldt of Sioux Falls, Lesa (Tom) Franken of Watertown, John (Denise) Olson of Hendricks, Betty (Michael) Walter of Freeman and Cris (Jeff) Engen of Brookings; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters due any day now; siblings, David (Gaylyne) Olson and Bevelyn Olson both of Hendricks and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Alton Olson and an infant niece Tammy Joy Olson.
