ARLINGTON – One man was arrested on drug and firearms charges after a vehicle was reported in the ditch near Arlington, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported at 7:37 a.m. Saturday and occurred at 455th Avenue near 197th Street, south of Lake Poinsett, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a vehicle in the ditch with two male subjects that appeared impaired and had a rifle in the vehicle,” Sebring said.

“Upon arrival, the parties in the vehicle would not follow directions from law enforcement. The driver eventually complied and exited the vehicle,” Sebring said.

Richard Tuve, 33, of Sioux Falls was allegedly found to be under the influence of a narcotic and in possession of a loaded firearm. He was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of DUI, possession of a controlled substance, ingesting a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Sebring said. He was also arrested on two outstanding warrants.

“The passenger of the vehicle was evaluated by the Arlington Ambulance and then released,” Sebring added.
