LAKE HENDRICKS – A driver was injured when her vehicle went through the ice on Lake Hendricks, and charges are pending, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported at 12:54 a.m. Sunday, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Hendricks Ambulance responded to Lake Hendricks after a driver had gone into the water,” Sebring said.

“It was found Kylie Roberts, 19, of Marshall, Minnesota, had become disorientated driving in an area she was unfamiliar with and driven onto the lake from Sunset Place,” Sebring said.

Roberts was driving a 2013 Chevy Traverse.

“Once on the lake, the vehicle was able to drive onto the ice for approximately 100 yards before falling through. The driver was then able to escape the vehicle and go to a residence nearby, where they called for help,” Sebring said.

“The vehicle is believed to be a total loss and was recovered from the lake the next day,” Sebring said.

“Kylie was taken to the Hendricks Hospital by the Hendricks Ambulance for unknown injuries. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident. Charges are pending against the driver,” Sebring said.
