BROOKINGS – Allison Schmitt, Brookings volunteer connections coordinator for the Helpline Center, recently announced the following opportunities for area residents to become more involved in the community through volunteering.
McCrory Gardens, Santa visit and horse-drawn trolley rides
Volunteer with McCrory Gardens on Dec. 1 or 8. Serve hot cocoa/coffee and assist trolley riders embarking/disembarking the trolley. Assist the photographer and Santa by registering visitors.
Brookings Area United Way Impact Tours
Take a tour and make an impact. Join Brookings Area United Way on Dec. 3 on a BATA bus as it visits the Brookings Arts Council, Brookings Activity Center, Brookings Food Pantry, Brookings Behavioral Health & Wellness at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; or Brookings Backpack Project and Habitat for Humanity home builds at noon. Groups will learn about new United Way initiatives and Funded Partners during a one-hour tour. To sign up, RSVP on Facebook or call 692-4979. All tours are free-will donations to impact United Way programming. All tours will meet at the Brookings Area United Way office, 619 Fifth Ave.
2019 Project Joy Store volunteers
Project Joy Store is just around the corner, and the organization can still use some great volunteers. Volunteers are needed in various capacities like: store set-up, Spanish speaking callers, haulers, personal shoppers, store stockers and clean-up.
Holiday Volunteer guide
Each year the Helpline Center creates Holiday Guides for those who need help and want to help during the holiday season. Separate guides are available for assistance, volunteering, giving, and special events. For more information, dial 211.
