The Brookings Optimist recently made a donation of $300 to be shared by two local organizations that help area youths.
Mary Kidwilder and Jean Josephson accepted a $150 grant for Feeding Brookings. “Feeding Brookings is the mission of the Ascension Lutheran Church. We have experienced an increase in the numbers of people needing support of food and supplies for daily living,” board member Josephson said.
Maddi Nelson, director of The Salvation Army in Brookings, accepted a $150 donation toward Share the Warmth. “To safely play outside in a South Dakota winter, a child needs a proper winter coat, snow pants, boots, weatherproof gloves, a hat, and a scarf. The cost of these items can really add up. The goal of Share the Warmth is to help ease the burden of the cost of this winter outerwear for children. We rely on community donations of new and gently used items. Larger size of coats for children and adults are in demand,” Nelson said.
