Panthers top Jackrabbits 1-0 for sixth straight shutout

WATERLOO, Iowa – Brynell Yount scored in the 85th minute as Northern Iowa remained unblemished and kept its shutout streak intact with a 1-0 defeat of South Dakota State in a nonconference match Friday night at Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.

The Panthers (6-0), who haven’t allowed a goal this season, are off to the best start in school history. They’ve outscored their opponents a combined 12-0, which includes three consecutive 1-0 victories.

UNI outshot SDSU 12-11, including 7-6 on goal. The Jackrabbits took six corner kicks to the Panthers’ three.

Jami Reichenberger made six saves to earn her sixth shutout win of the year. She’s been in goal for all 540 minutes this season, totaling 23 saves.

SDSU’s Maggie Smither also had six saves.

Annie Williams led the Jackrabbits with three shots, including two on goal.

South Dakota State (2-4-1) heads to Des Moines, Iowa, to face Drake on Sunday at noon.
