BROOKINGS – The Brookings Police Department received reports Monday of suspicious activity involving a female and a juvenile asking individuals for rides. This activity was reportedly occurring in the parking lots of Brookings Walmart and HyVee.

It was later determined that social media reports claimed this activity was a result of sex traffickers looking for potential victims.

Through investigation, the Brookings Police Department was able to confirm that this activity was not related to sex trafficking or any conspiracy to commit such acts. An interview conducted with the female involved has confirmed the reported activity was not criminal in nature.

The Brookings Police Department appreciates the public’s assistance in this matter and continues to encourage that if you “see something, say something.”
