BROOKINGS – Brookings Police say suspicious items found inside a home prompted precautionary measures near Hillcrest Elementary School Tuesday afternoon, but there were no direct threats made against anyone or the school, and the situation was quickly resolved.
According to a BPD press release, the department responded to a disturbance call at the residence in the 1500 block of Third Street at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday. The home is just south of the school.
“Through the course of the investigation, suspicious items were located inside the residence,” according to the BPD press release, which did not specify what the items were.
“As a precautionary measure, the residence was evacuated, a perimeter was established, and parents were asked to pick their children up at a different location due to the proximity of Hillcrest Elementary School to the residence.”
“There were no direct threats made against anyone or the school. This matter was quickly resolved, and the residents were allowed to return to their home,” the release added.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation assisted the police department.
