Pearl Marie was born October 25, 1925, at the Ortonville, MN hospital.  She was the daughter of William and Minnie Frericks of Corona, SD.  Pearl grew up on her parent’s farm near Corona, SD.  She was baptized and confirmed in the rural Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She received her education at rural Garfield, Corona High School and Brookings.

After her marriage to Harvey Nordquist they farmed in the Wilmot, SD community for 25 years.  During these years Pearl was active as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and participated in the yearly Wilmot community chorus and programs.

She and her husband, Harvey, moved to Brookings SD in September 1970.  Harvey was employed with Cooper’s Plumbing and Heating, and Pearl was employed with Brost’s Fashions and Fabrics for 15 years and summers at White Mart for 2 years.

They became members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran church in Brookings.  Pearl joined the newly formed Alter Guild in the late 1970’s, and at that time served as a treasurer of the group.  In later years she was also a member of the LWM.

Her husband, Harvey, died July 1, 1982 in Brookings, SD.  On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1985, Pearl married Ervin Huether of Brookings, SD at Mt. Calvary Lutheran church.  They continued to make their home in Brookings and spent 12 winters in San Diego, CA.  Erv died Jan. 31, 2012.

Pearl also enjoyed traveling and camping with Harvey in their mini motor home.  She enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, sewing, reading, and especially playing her electric organ.

Pearl is survived by her son Leland (Deonne) Nordquist of Brookings, two daughters Eileen (Steve Erickson) Hoeke of Brandon, SD and Paulette (John) Frederickson of Spearfish, SD. She had 3 step-children: David Huether and Mary Cech of Brookings and Brenda Akland of Alcester, SD.  Pearl is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Rollie, Bob, Rod, and Reggie Hoeke, Kalee Greve, Brooke, Travis, and Crystal Frederickson and step-grandchildren.  She had many great-grandchildren and was also a great-great grandmother. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husbands Harvey Nordquist and Erv Huether, brothers Emil, Elmer, and Ralph Frerichs and sister Alice Steege.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be given to Mt. Calvary Lutheran church or Brookings Hospice.  The family is grateful for the care Pearl was given while at ULC.
