Pearl Pedersen, 101, of Arlington, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at the Arlington Care and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington with Vicar Brad Sanderson officiating.  Burial is in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m.  Wednesday at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Thursday.

Pearl Arileen Hesby was born October 19, 1916, at Kratka, Minnesota.  She was the second of three children born to John G. and Thora (Jorgensen) Hesby.  

She was baptized into the Christian faith and later confirmed her faith.

As a small child, Pearl moved with her family to Lake Preston.  She received her education in local schools, graduating from Arlington High School in 1934 as class valedictorian.

In 1938 Pearl married Harold Pedersen. They farmed in the Arlington area for 47 years.  Pearl was a busy wife, homemaker and mother of five children.

She always had a vegetable garden, kept a large flock of laying hens and raised geese for market.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tending her flowers,  baking and cooking wonderful meals for her family.

Her husband died in 1997, after which Pearl moved into Arlington.

She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity women’s group and sewing circle, making quilt tops and crocheting Linus blankets.

Pearl is survived by five children, Arden (Irma) Pedersen of Arlington, Derald (Delma) Pedersen of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Joan (Lawrence) Groon of Arlington, Robert Pedersen of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Richard Pedersen of Burnsville, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her brother, Garmon Hesby and sister Elna Thorsvold, six brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law.
