PeeWee A takes 4th in Fargo tourney

The Rangers split with Sioux Falls, winning 4-2 at home Friday and losing 1-0 in overtime on the road Saturday, and then picked up a 2-0 victory at Aberdeen on Sunday.

Brookings is 6-2-1-1 in league play.

 Brookings 4, Sioux Falls 2

Four different Rangers lit the lamp.

Jackson Law and Kane Kurtenbach (power play) netted first-period goals, leaving the score at 2-1.

Trenton Pederson scored in the second period and Trevor Pederson added a goal in the third. Both players also had assists in the game. Geoffrey Svobodny added an assist.

Goalie Carter Schulz made 30 saves.

 Sioux Falls 1, Brookings 0, OT

The Flyers’ Austin Rosenbaum scored on assists from Aidan Pollard and Brock Malwitz 3:50 into overtime. Cole Langston stopped 32 shots to post the shutout.

Kaden Gutormson made 23 saves for the Rangers.

 Brookings 2, Aberdeen 0

Gutormson recorded 23 saves to earn the shutout victory.

Noah Ronning had a goal in the second period and Law scored in the third.

JV GIRLS

Brookings fell 6-0 at Sioux Falls on Saturday and 6-2 at Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Flyers’ Lillian Moon netted a hat trick and goalie Riley VanderEsch made seven saves.

The Rangers’ Heidi Merriman stopped 22 shots.

Kiran Vugteveen scored a pair of first-period goals for the Rangers.

Raya Hessler and Taryn Richter picked up assists.

Merriman tallied 40 saves.

BANTAM A

Brookings went 1-2 on the road over the weekend, beating Watertown 7-0 on Friday before falling 4-3 in overtime to Sioux Falls (1) on Saturday and 5-4 to Oahe on Sunday.

The Rangers are 6-2-0-1 and sit in third in the league standings.

Owen Schneider and Jack Merritt led the charge offensively and Egan Jensen made 10 saves to notch the shutout.

Schneider, who had a pair of assists, and Merritt both lit the lamp twice.

Eli Johnson, Jacob Peterson and Zach Struck each added a goal.

Garrett Bothe, Chase Karch, Jacob Kahle and Ren Jacobsen had assists.

• Sioux Falls (1) 4, Brookings 3, OT

The Flyers scored 6:07 into the extra period to secure the victory.

Merritt had a goal and two assists.

Peterson added one goal and one assist. Schneider also lit the lamp, while Luke Honkomp had an assist.

Jensen made 11 saves.

 Oahe 5, Brookings 4

The Capitals scored four times in the second period to build a 5-2 lead and then held off the Rangers.

Struck had two goals.

Peterson added a goal and an assist. Merritt chipped in with a goal and Schneider had an assist.

Jensen stopped 12 shots.

BANTAM B

Brookings went 0-3 on the road over the weekend, falling 4-0 to Watertown, 3-2 to Sioux Falls (1) and 3-1 to Yankton.

Nathan Brecher stopped seven shots.

 Sioux Falls (1) 3, Brookings 2

Spencer Heflin and Jordan Raatz both scored.

Brecher made eight saves.

Cooper Deatherage scored a power-play goal on an assist from Aidan Austreim.

Brecher made 23 saves.

GIRLS 14U

The Rangers lost two of three on the road.

They beat Sioux Center 2-1 on Friday before falling 6-1 to Sioux Falls on Saturday and 7-1 to Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Rangers scored both their goals in the first period, including Taryn Richter’s tally. Graciana Peterson notched an assist.

Heidi Merriman made 17 saves.

Miyah Foerster scored a goal.

Rorii Quam recorded 20 saves.

 Aberdeen 7, Brookings 1

Sawyer Triplett lit the lamp on Anna Rasmussen’s helper.

Quam picked up 17 saves.

PEEWEE A

The Rangers went 2-2-1 and placed fourth in a the 16-team Buffalo Wild Wings Woodchipper PeeWee B1 & B Classic in Fargo.

Brookings beat Coon Rapids 12-2 on Friday. It dropped Bismarck Blue 9-3 and tied Moorhead Orange 3-3 on Saturday. The Rangers fell 3-2 to Fargo Freeze Gray and 4-1 to Moorhead Black in Sunday’s action.

The Rangers scored four goals in the second period and seven in the third.

Riley Linstad scored four goals and added an assist.

Jay Harris netted a hat trick.

Parker Nielsen added a goal and two assists, while Rhys Heiberger and Jackson Heller both tallied one goal and one assists. Bryce Heflin and Braden Dobesh chipped in with goals.

Talon Hyde recorded four assists, Cody Jacobson three, Waylon Carroll and Masen Holen two apiece and Issak Earley one.

Ryder Anderson notched 11 saves to post the shutout.

 Brookings 9, Bismarck Blue 3

Nielsen (assist) and Hyde both scored twice.

Linstad (assist), Harris, Jacobson, Dobesh and Holen also lit the lamp.

Heiberger picked up a pair of assists, with Heller and Tre Christopherson both contributing one.

Anderson recorded 18 saves.

 Brookings 3, Moorhead Orange 3, tie

Cody Jacobson had a goal and two assists. Harris added one goal and one assist. Heller found the back of the net for the final tally to tie the score midway through the third.

Anderson made 18 saves.

 Fargo Freeze Gray 3, Brookings 2

The North Dakota club scored twice in the third period to post the win.

Linstad scored twice in the second to put the Rangers ahead 2-1. Hyde had two assists and Harris added one.

Anderson picked up 25 saves.

 Moorhead Black 4, Brookings 1

Linstad lit the lamp on Hyde’s assist.

Anderson stopped 20 shots.

PEEWEE C

The Rangers finished 0-4 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Woodchipper Classic in Fargo.

They fell 8-2 to Fargo Freeze Green on Friday, 10-3 to BFCG and 10-2 to Alexandria White on Saturday and 11-1 to Mandan on Sunday.

SQUIRT MINORS

Brookings hit the road Sunday and beat Brandon Valley twice.

Jack Lovseth had a big game with five goals and a pair of assists.

Colin Jacobson had three goals, Ty Harris two, and Carter Nielsen, Maxx Anderson, Beau Luvaas and Colt VanMaanen one apiece. Anderson and Jacobson added assists.

 Brookings 5, Brandon Valley 2

VanMaanen netted a hat trick and Nielsen scored the other two goals.

Lovseth assisted.

MITE/TERMITE

The Dakota Premier Classic Mite A, Mite B and Termite Tournaments were contested over the weekend at Larson Ice Center.

Each tourney had 11 teams.

Brookings fielded one team in Mite A, two in Mite B and four in Termite.
