SIOUX FALLS – Dave Peterson has been recognized by Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) for his long record of service to the Brookings Municipal Utilities Board.

Peterson earned the MRES Community Leader Award, which was established in 2003 to honor local officials from MRES member communities who have provided many years of service to their communities and public power systems.

MRES has 61 member communities, including Brookings, from the states of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Each of these communities owns and operates a local electric system and purchases electric power from MRES.

The awards ceremony took place during the MRES Annual Meeting May 9 in Sioux Falls.

MRES Board Chairman Harold Schiebout outlined some of the leadership activities Peterson has provided to the Brookings Utilities.

“Dave Peterson has been a member of the Brookings Municipal Utilities Board since 2005 and has served as president of that Board since 2015. His extensive educational and military background has served him well in his leadership roles with the Utilities Board,” Schiebout said.

Peterson served for seven years in the U.S. Navy specializing in electronics and computer training and he served for 15 years in the Army National Guard and Reserve. He also has been a teacher and school administrator in Brookings.
