BROOKINGS – An armed robber got away with cash, and Brookings Police are looking for him, Lt. Marci Gebers said.

An employee and patron who were in the business were not injured, she added.

The armed robbery was reported at 11:08 p.m. Wednesday at Schoon’s Pump ’N Pak South.

“Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Main Avenue South for an armed robbery that had just occurred,” Gebers said.

“A male individual entered the store and was armed with a handgun. He pointed the handgun at the employee and the patron and demanded that the employee give him money,” Gebers said. The suspect also pushed the patron.

The suspect is described as approximately 5-11 tall and 160-170 pounds, Gebers said.

He was wearing a black face covering, a black hoodie, black gloves, grey sweatpants, a dark-colored stocking cap, and black shoes with white soles.

“He was able to flee the store with an undetermined amount of cash. Shortly after he fled the store, there was a silver or white-colored Chevy (or GMC) four-door pickup that was seen fleeing the area,” Gebers said.

Gebers had some advice for those who might be in a similar situation.

“The employee and the patron did exactly what we would hope people would do and that’s comply. Don’t try to be a hero and put yourself in danger, just try to be a good witness and make observations so that law enforcement can follow up and hopefully apprehend the individual,” she said.
