Prairie Rep to open 48th season

BROOKINGS – Prairie Repertory Theatre is set to open its 48th summer season June 6 in Brookings. This season’s shows are “Bye Bye Birdie,” “The Fox on the Fairway,” “Tuesdays with Morrie” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” This marks the final season performing in Doner Auditorium, before moving into the Performing Arts Center on campus in 2019.

The Brookings season opens with “Bye Bye Birdie,” a vibrant rock & roll musical from small-town 1960s America, June 6-10. “The Fox on the Fairway,” a hilarious country club farce, follows June 13-17. “Tuesdays with Morrie,” a heartwarming story full of laughs and tears, takes the stage June 20-24. The season closes with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” June 27-July 1.

Prairie Repertory Theatre’s company primarily consists of students from around the U.S., including Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota and Texas. PRT is also delighted to have Rick Zimmer direct “Tuesdays with Morrie,” with Ken Stofferahn serving as guest scenic designer. Rebecca Bailey will direct “The Little Mermaid.” All are PRT/SDSU Alumni.

Tickets will be available at the Performing Arts Center on campus beginning May 30. The Performing Arts Center box office is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and will be open an hour before performances at Doner Auditorium. Tickets will be available for purchase online at http://sdstate.tix.com after May 30.

Starting July 9, tickets will be available at the Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center in Brandon. The box office in Brandon will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and open an hour before performances. In Brandon, performance dates are:

 “The Little Mermaid” – July 11-12, July 28-29.

 “The Fox on the Fairway,” July 13-15, 18;

 “Bye Bye Birdie,” July 19-22; and

 “Tuesdays with Morrie,” July 25-27.
