BROOKINGS – Prairie Repertory Theatre continues its 2021 season with “Quilters.”

The second show of the season tells the stories of women settling the vast prairie. “Quilters,” written by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, will be performed June 16-19 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance June 19 at 2 p.m.

“Quilters” tells the stories of pioneer women moving to the new frontier through Sarah and her six daughters. Patching together stories of marriage, childbirth, fire, twisters, illness and death though their quilt work, the stories told by these women are a moving spectacle of simple human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity.

SDSU dance professor Melissa Hauschild-Mork will direct the show with the help of vocal director Kate Wismer (Britton). The cast includes Olivia Davis (Brookings), Klara McElroy (Cabot, Arkansas), Makayla Overholt (Madison), Tiffany Quinton (Sapulpa, Oklahoma), Elizabeth Anne Stucker (Spirit Lake, Iowa), Katherine Telkamp (Britton) and Abby Turner (Miller). The cast will be joined onstage with student accompanist Shawn Stemsrud (Stockholm).

The show also includes Jonathan Adderley (Nassau, Bahamas), stage manager; Shannin Ashmore (Sioux City, Iowa), wardrobe lead; Rachel Board (Vass, North Carolina), house manager; Anica Broekemeier (Lebanon, Illinois), prop master; Isaiah Dietz (Brandon), sound design; Taylor Hoffmeyer (Sioux Falls), master carpenter and David Kastner (Redfield), lighting design.
