Prodoehl walkoff lifts Bobcats

BROOKINGS – Akren Prodoehl capped a 4-for-5 performance with a walkoff double in the ninth inning as the Bobcats edged Sioux Falls Lincoln 3-2 on Friday evening at Bob Shelden Field for their ninth consecutive victory.

Parker Beers opened the bottom of the ninth by getting hit by a pitch and moved to second on Jacob Devine’s sacrifice bunt. Cody Niklason then walked to set the stage for Prodoehl.

Tyler Kreutner pitched four innings of shutout ball in relief to earn the win. He gave up just one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.

Brookings rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Devine was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Niklason’s RBI single cut the deficit in half. After Prodoehl singled, Lerdal drove in courtesy runner Justin Devine with a sacrifice fly to knot things up at 2-all.

Jameson Meyer finished 2-for-4 with a double and Brandin Heesch also tallied a two-bagger as the Bobcats totaled nine hits.

Starter Jacob Schoon surrendered two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Patriots’ Oliver Lockwood-Powell drove in Avry Rice, who singled, with a groundout in the top of the second.

Stan Larson led off the fourth with a single, took second on Lockwood-Powell’s sacrifice and then scored on Alex Glanzer’s two-out hit to put Lincoln on top 2-0.

Logan Mueller finished 3-for-4.

George Mickelson took the loss on the mound after giving up one run on two hits with a strikeout and a walk over the final 1 1/3 innings.

Cayden Veland, the starter, allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Presten Riddle tossed two scoreless innings after that.

Brookings (10-1) returns to action at Huron on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
