BROOKINGS – Patrice Buzzanell, a distinguished professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication and School of Engineering Education at Purdue University, will speak on various topics at the upcoming Women’s Leadership Summit at South Dakota State University.
The summit takes place April 4 in the Campanile Room at the University Student Union.
All sessions are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
“Dr. Patrice Buzzanell’s work focuses on mentoring, career-life balance and organizational life,” said Elizabeth Tolman, professor and coordinator of SDSU’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
“This year, the summit gives our students from across a variety of programs the opportunity to learn from an internationally known scholar. We have built the sessions into a number of courses, so the students can attend the sessions during their class time. In addition, anyone interested in learning about these topics and current research will enjoy her talks. The research is cutting-edge, timely and has direct applications.”
Buzzanell will present at four sessions, including a keynote address. The sessions include:
• 9:30 a.m.: Constituting Interventions for Inclusion Through Design Thinking and Leadership;
• 11 a.m.: Leadership Responsibility to Foster Resilience for Strategic Competitive Advantage;
• 12:45 p.m.: Panel discussion moderated by Kim Gustafson;
• 2 p.m.: Leading Everyday Resilience Enactment in the Workplace (Keynote); and
• 3:30 p.m.: Leadership Encouragement of Mentoring Throughout the Academic Lifespan.

Named as distinguished scholar by the National Communication Association in 2016 and fellow of the International Communication Association in 2011, Buzzanell has served as president of ICA, Council of Communication Associations and the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender. She is also the Butler Chair and director of the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence.
The event is also sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and the Experiential Learning Program in the College of Arts and Sciences.
