AUSTIN, Minn. – The Austin Bruins scored twice in the first period during a 4-1 defeat of the Brookings Blizzard in an NAHL Central Division matchup Saturday night at Riverside Arena.
Evan Cholak had an unassisted goal with 7:06 left in the opening stanza. Andy Willis lit the lamp on assists from Dante Zapata and Alex Mella with 5:14 to go to make it 2-0.
The Blizzard cut the deficit in half at the 11:39 mark of the second as Griffen Sanom found the back of the net. Tyler Hinterser and Tim Lopez were credited with assists.
Willis’ second goal of the game came on a power play with 3:46 remaining in the third. Travis Kothenbeutel and Lane Krenzen assisted.
Xander Lamppa’s goal, assisted by Jaden Shields, provided for the final margin with 7:59 to go in the game.
Mads Sogaard made 27 saves to earn the win in goal. Brookings’ Benjamin Beck stopped 19 shots.
The Bruins (1-3-1-2, 5 points) went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Blizzard finished 0-for-8.
Brookings (6-4-0-0, 12 points) plays host to Bismarck on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
