Ranger girls drop a pair

SIOUX FALLS/ABERDEEN – The Ranger girls fell to the top two teams in the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association standings over the weekend, losing 7-2 at Aberdeen on Sunday and 4-0 at Sioux Falls on Saturday.

The Cougars have a 9-1 record and the Flyers are 8-0. Sioux Falls beat Aberdeen 4-3 on Jan. 4 at the PREMIER Center.

Third-place Brookings (6-3-0-1) plays at Rushmore on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:15 p.m.

The Cougars scored six consecutive goals to close out the contest.

The Rangers got things going on Savannah Barber’s tally 40 seconds into the game.

Montana Myer’s power-play goal 39 seconds into the second made it 2-1.

Aberdeen’s Kaitlyn Holland lit the lamp five times. She netted the game-winner – making it 3-2 – on a power play with 3:31 remaining in the second period.

Holland had three of her team’s four goals in the final stanza.

Shelby Snow made 17 saves to earn the win in goal.

Brookings Jadyn Runge stopped 29 shots.


 Sioux Falls 4, Brookings 0

Four different Flyers found the back of the net.

Alyssa Lingen scored midway through the first period and Chloe Harbaugh added a goal early in the second. Grace Halvorson (11:16) and Gaby Schroeder (3:30) added insurance goals in the third.

Ava Krabbenhoft recorded nine saves to earn the shutout between the pipes.

Jadyn Runge had 23 saves.
