HURON – After a scoreless first period, the Ranger defense shut down the All-Stars while the Brookings offense got untracked to claim a 4-1 South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association win at Bergman Arena.

Brenden Way scored off a Dominic Dobesh setup with 5:11 to play in the second to give the Rangers a 1-0 leading heading into the final period.

Less than 3 minutes into the third, Huron’s Xavier Erickson cashed in on a power-play attempt to tie the game up, but from there, it was all Rangers.

Austin Lesnar found the back of the net with 12 minutes left off an assist by Brandin Heesch to give Brookings a 2-1 advantage.

Two minutes later, Cody Niklason lit the lamp as Kurt Gutormson and Matt Chapin picked up the helpers.

With less than 3 to play, Dobesh added an insurance goal on a power-play chance with Gutormson earning another assist.

The Rangers held a 31-15 edge in shots after each team fired eight apiece in the first period. Tristian Hokenson came up with 14 saves to earn the win in goal.

Brookings, 4-0, plays host to Mitchell in an 8:15 p.m. on Thursday at Larson Ice Center.
