BROOKINGS – The Rangers avenged a season-opening loss to Watertown with a 10-2 thrashing of the Lakers on Friday night at Larson Ice Center.

Watertown did score the first goal less than 4 minutes into the contest – but from there, it was all Brookings.

Montana Myer tied the score less than a minute later off an Ellie Hegdahl assist; and then Myer gave the Rangers the lead with 6:51 left in the period off assists from Carlie Kruse and Hegdahl.

Addie Ramlo pushed the advantage to 3-1 with 4:02 to play as Bethany Rennich and Jadyn Peterson earned assists. Twelve seconds later, Peterson scored off a Ramlo setup for a 4-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Savannah Barber lit the lamp 2 1/2 minutes in, with McKenna Geraets notching the assist. Rennich added an unassisted goal later in the frame before Peterson scored with 5 seconds to play off a Rennich helper.

The Rangers tacked on three more goals over the first 10 minutes of the third period as Peterson scored 3 1/2 minutes in; Janaya Kuehl tallied an unassisted goal less than 3 minutes later; and then, Hegdahl found the back of the net – off a Myer assist – for a 10-1 advantage with less than 7 minutes left.

The Lakers scored on a power-play chance with 3:29 to play for the final margin.

Brookings held a 31-30 edge in shots as Jadyn Runge came up with 28 saves in the win.

Brookings, 5-3 on the season and fifth in the SDAHA standings with 10 points, entertains Mitchell for a 6:45 p.m. faceoff on Saturday and a 1:45 game on Sunday.
