Rangers drop 2 league games

BROOKINGS/SIOUX FALLS – The Rangers split a pair of South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association games over the weekend as they fell 9-0 to Aberdeen on Saturday night at Larson Ice Center, and then, dropped a 4-2 decision at Sioux Falls on Sunday.

Brookings sits in fifth place in the league standings with eight points with a 4-4 mark. The Rangers play host to Huron on Friday and Oahe on Saturday before traveling to Watertown to take on the Lakers on Sunday.

The Flyers scored twice in the first period and then added two more goals in the third to improve to 7-1 in league play with 14 points.

Jadyn Peterson tallied an unassisted goal in the second period to cut Sioux Falls’ lead in half before Addie Ramlo notched a late goal off assists by Emma Rice and Peterson for the final margin.

The Flyers held a 34-13 advantage in shots as Marina Gerstner (17) and Jadyn Runge (13) combined for 30 saves in the loss. Ava Krabbenhoft stopped 11 Ranger shots for the win.

The Rangers held off the top team for half of the first period but then Aberdeen’s firepower broke through as the Cougars scored twice in the span of seven seconds, and then, added three more goals for a 5-0 lead after one.

Aberdeen tallied its sixth goal with 2:12 to play in the second to send the game into run time before tacking on three third-period goals for the 9-0 shutout win.

The Cougars held a 27-8 edge in shots as Shelby Snow earned the win with eight saves. Gerstner stopped 18 shots in the loss.
