Rangers fall to Flyers, 4-3

BROOKINGS – The Rangers spotted Sioux Falls three first-period goals, which proved to be too many to overcome as the Flyers held on for a 4-3 South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association win on Friday night at Larson Ice Center.

Trailing 3-0, Bethany Rennich got Brookings on the scoreboard 4 minutes into the second period as she went one-on-one with Flyer goalie Ava Krabbenhoft and put the puck past her high on the glove side as Jadyn Peterson earned the assist.

Three minutes later, the Flyers scored their fourth goal of the night, but Rennich countered with a short-handed unassisted goal with 6:31 to play in the period to make it 4-2 heading into the third.

Brooklyn Roberts found the back of the net to pull the Rangers within a goal with 6:24 to play in the game as Rennich and Peterson set up the goal, but that ended the scoring.

Sioux Falls, 4-2, held a 28-24 edge in shots as Jadyn Runge finished with 24 saves in the loss.

Brookings, which dropped to fifth in the standings with six points – courtesy of a 3-3 record – plays host to Watertown on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
