Rangers go 2-1 to open league play

BROOKINGS/WATERTOWN – The Ranger girls went 2-1 on the opening weekend of South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association play.

Brookings beat Omaha 10-0 Sunday and 10-1 Saturday at Larson Ice Center after falling 5-3 at Watertown on Friday.

The Rangers return to action at Sioux Falls on Friday at 7 p.m.

Sunday

 Brookings 10, Omaha 0

Montana Myer racked up five points – a goal and four assists – for the Rangers, who led 5-0 after a period and 9-0 through two.

Brookings held a 42-12 advantage in shots.

Bethany Rennich totaled two goals and an assist, and Carlie Kruse also lit the lamp twice. Jadyn Peterson had one goal and two assists.

Emma Rice, Addison Ramlo, Brooklyn Roberts and Savannah Barber each contributed a goal. 

Jady Runge made 12 saves to earn the shutout win in goal.

Brookings was 1-for-1 on the power play.

The Lady Jr. Lancers’ Lucy Bruening stopped 32 shots.

Saturday

 Brookings 10, Omaha 1

Bethany Rennich led the charge, posting a hat trick and also registering three assists.

The Rangers scored three goals in the first and third periods and totaled four in the second. They outshot the Lady Jr. Lancers 52-10.

Montana Myer netted a pair of goals. Jadyn Peterson and Carlie Kruse both had a goal and two assists.

McKenna Geraets, Addison Ramlo and Savannah Barber also scored. Brooklyn Roberts and Jenna Schulte added an assist apiece.

Jadyn Runge made nine saves.

Brookings was 1-for-1 on the power play.

Omaha’s Keira Morgan scored early in the third period, as Caelin McQuade assisted. Lucy Bruening made 42 saves.

Friday

 Watertown 5, Brookings 3

The Lakers scored twice in the third period to pull out the season-opening win.

Jaclyn Lloyd lit the lamp on an assist from Tessa Holien with 11:05 remaining. Kendra Kranz added a goal on an assist from Lloyd with 5:04 to play.

The score was tied at 3-3 following a wild first period.

The Rangers struck first on Jadyn Peterson’s unassisted tally.

Watertown answered with back-to-back goals as Kranz and Madilyn Steen – assisted by Tiffany Hamann – both scored. Brookings pulled even on Brooklyn Roberts’ goal, which was assisted by Bethany Rennich.

The Lakers again moved ahead after Jaclyn Lloyd scored an unassisted goal.

Montana Myer knotted the score at 3-all with 8 seconds to go in the period. Roberts assisted.

Sydnie Young made 18 saves to earn the win in goal. Brookings’ Jadyn Runge stopped 30 shots.
