Rangers handle All Stars, 8-3

HURON – Savannah Barber (five points) and Kiran Vugteveen both netted hat tricks as the Rangers beat the All Stars 8-3 in a South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association girls’ matchup Tuesday night at Bergman Arena.

Barber got it going on an assist from Janaya Kuehl 3:51 into the contest and then set up Mckenna Geraets’ tally 5 minutes later.

Huron’s Devin Hunter quickly cut the deficit in half, with the assist going to Kylee Small.

Barber made it 3-1 with 2:31 left in the first. Taylor Hokenson was credited with the assist.

In the second, Vugteveen scored twice – Barber assisted on the former – to push the margin to 5-1.

Barber completed her hat trick with 15:12 remaining in the game and Vugteveen with 8:50 left. Emma Rice and Kuehl had assists. In between, Alexis Schelske lit the lamp as the Rangers were up 8-1.

Small (from Hunter) and Fatima Reyes (from Ashley Busch) scored late for the All Stars.

Jadyn Runge made 17 saves to earn the win between the pipes.

Marissa Ready stopped 12 shots for Huron, which dropped to 4-11.

Brookings (9-4) plays at Watertown on Saturday at 4 p.m.
