BROOKINGS – After a pair of pool-play losses in Friday’s 19U Junior Gold Dakota Premier Classic, the Rangers bounced back with a 9-0 shutout pool-play win over Rushmore on Saturday.
Brookings, which finished 1-2, did not qualify for Sunday’s place games.
In the A Division, Aberdeen defeated St. Thomas, 4-2, for the championship while St. Vital edged Mitchell, 4-3, for third place.
In the B Division, Sioux Center defeated White Bear Lake for the championship while the BW Blades downed the Omaha Lady Lancers 16U, 7-3, for third place.

The Rangers scored three goals in each period while limiting Rushmore to just 12 shots in the entire game as Marina Gerstner earned the shutout win in goal with 12 saves.
Montana Myer opened the scoring midway through the first period off assists from Emma Rice and Brooklyn Roberts before Jadyn Peterson scored her first of four goals. Savannah Barber and Janaya Kuehl set up Peterson’s tally. Barber sent Brookings into the first intermission up 3-0 off a Peterson assist with 2:31 on the clock.
Carlie Kruse netted the puck off a Myer helper to open the second period, and then, Alexis Schelske scored off an assist from Barber. Rice lit the lamp with 2:06 left as Schelske and Myer earned assists.
Peterson scored all three Rangers goals in the third – unassisted on all three, with the middle goal being short-handed.
