Rangers solidify hold on second place in SDAHA standings with win over Fremont; tie with Flyers in weekend contests

SIOUX FALLS/FREMONT, Neb. – The Rangers beat Fremont and tied with Sioux Falls in a pair of South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association league games over the weekend.

Brookings downed Fremont, 1-0, on Saturday before skating to a 2-2 tie with the Flyers on Sunday.

The Rangers, 9-2-2-0 on the season and third in the SDAHA standings with 20 points, travels to Mitchell on Friday to face the Marlins in an 8 p.m. game.

The Ranger scored late in the third period to send the game into overtime, where neither team could net the puck, resulting in the tie.

The Flyers scored a short-handed goal to lead after a period before Cody Niklason lit the lamp early in the second to even the game at 1-1 off a Brandin Heesch assist. Sioux Falls answered two minutes later for a 2-1 advantage heading into the final frame.

With 5 minutes to play, Dominic Dobesh found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2, as Niklason and Heesch set up the goal.

The Flyers held a 46-26 edge in shots as Dylan Geraets collected 44 saves.


 Brookings 1, Fremont 0

Austin Lesnar scored on an assist from Niklason less than 90 seconds into the second period and Tristian Hokenson made 16 saves to secure the victory.

The Rangers racked up 41 shots.
