Redhawks, Dolphins record DVC victories


ESTELLINE – Estelline/Hendricks edged Arlington 39-37 in a Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball game Thursday on a frigid shooting night for both teams.

The Cardinals led 10-7 after a quarter. The Redhawks moved ahead 13-12 at halftime and was up 25-22 heading to the fourth.

Estelline/Hendricks was 26.5 percent (13-of-49) from the field and went 10-of-25 at the free-throw line. Arlington shot 26.7 percent (12-of-45).

The Redhawks’ Kaylee Johnson had 12 points and four rebounds. Sophie Johnson added 11 points and six boards.

Abby Satterlee and Brinn Begalka both contributed seven points.

The Cardinals’ Makayla Nelson posted a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Jeryn Christensen scored 11 points and Jayna Haufschild 10.

Arlington (4-4, 2-3) takes on Andes Central/Dakota Christian in the Mustang Seeds/DSU Shootout on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Madison. Estelline/Hendricks (7-2, 3-2) plays host to Flandreau Indian School on Saturday in Hendricks, Minn.

WHITE – The Dolphins remained unbeaten with the DVC defeat of the Cardinals.

Shaylee DeBeer had a solid all-around game, posting a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds while adding two assists, a pair of steals and a block.

Baylee Holmlund contributed 10 points and three steals. Dre Vandermeer had nine points. Mattie Nepodal totaled five points and eight boards, while Ashley Vandermeer finished with five points, six assists and two blocked shots.

Deubrook led 13-7 after a quarter, 28-16 at halftime and 39-27 through three.

Deubrook Area (7-0, 4-0) plays McLaughlin in the Heritage Classic on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. DRSM (3-6, 1-4) faces Arlington in the first round of the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Monday at 6 p.m. in White.

DE SMET – The Lady Bulldogs moved to 8-0 (5-0 DVC) with the win.

De Smet faces Corsica-Stickney (8-0) in the Hanson Classic on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Colman-Egan (4-4, 3-1) takes on Lake Preston in the first round of the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Monday at 6 p.m. in Ramona.
