Region 3B: Dolphins, Warriors, Lady Bulldogs, Lady Patriots advance

Deubrook Area, Castlewood, De Smet and Hitchcock-Tulare came up with victories in the Region 3B Girls’ Basketball Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Dolphins beat Wolsey-Wessington (9-12) 70-37; the Warriors cruised past Wessington Springs (6-16) 57-16; the Lady Bulldogs won 62-19 over Arlington (8-14); and the Lady Patriots eliminated Lake Preston (12-9) via a 60-41 triumph.

The semifinals are Thursday in Madison.

Castlewood (18-2) and Hitchcock-Tulare (13-8) face off at 6 p.m. De Smet (16-5) faces Deubrook Area (16-5) at 7:30 p.m.

The semifinal winners advance to the Class B Sweet 16, which is Thursday, March 1.

 Deubrook Area 70, Wolsey-Wessington 37

WHITE – Cortney Bauman scored a game-high 30 points as the Dolphins moved on.

Deubrook was up 22-11 after a quarter, 33-17 at halftime and 51-29 through three.

Bauman came up with six of the team’s 16 steals.

Cassie Quail added 14 points and six rebounds. Shaylee DeBeer had nine points and five assists.

Ashley Vandermeer totaled eight points and four steals. Shelby Andrews also came up with six boards.

For the Lady Warbirds, Lizzi Brandt had nine points while Taylor Sprecher and Raquel Nelson both chipped in with seven.

CASTLEWOOD – Darah DeKam had 15 points and Alayna Benike added 11 for the Warriors, who led 24-6 after a quarter and 42-6 at halftime.

Regan Benike totaled nine points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Abbey Strait chipped in with eight markers.

The Lady Spartans shot 18.4 percent (7-of-38) and had 37 turnovers.

Cadee Schelske scored five points.

 De Smet 62, Arlington 19

DE SMET – The Lady Bulldogs were up 19-7 after a quarter, 37-12 at halftime and 55-15 through three.

Gianna Janssen scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting while adding four rebounds and three assists.

Rynn Osthus had 15 points, four assists and eight steals.

Kennadi Buccholz went 5-of-6 from the field and tallied 11 points off the bench. Kenzie Blue had seven points, eight boards and six steals.

De Smet shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) and had nine turnovers. Arlington ended up at 24.1 percent (7-of-29) with 28 giveaways – 22 of which came on De Smet steals.

The Cardinals’ Makayla Nelson ended up with five points and Madysn Gilbertson contributed four.

HITCHCOCK – The Lady Patriots built a 13-6 lead after a quarter and gradually pulled away to defeat the Divers.

They were up 32-20 at halftime and 48-30 through three.

Elizabeth Salmen had 16 points and six of the team’s 23 steals. Dawsyn Otto and Dannyn Peterson added 14 points apiece.

Tyler Schone had seven points, nine rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Ally Binger dished out 10 assists.

Lake Preston’s Lexie Larsen scored a game-high 20 points. Ashlyn DeKnikker added eight points.
