BROOKINGS – Brookings Health System and Brookings Hy-Vee will host the fourth annual Super Hero 5K Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, Sept. 29. The race will start and end at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the SDSU campus.
The event will include a kids’ 1-mile race at 8:30 a.m. with the main race starting at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite super hero; prizes will be given for the best costumes. Participants who register by Sept. 15 will receive a race T-shirt; participating children will receive a race medal from sponsor Allegra.
In addition to the races, the event will include a family-oriented health fair with informational booths on wellness activities, safety, and nutrition. Fun activities and games for all ages will also be available.
Proceeds from the event will go to Project Purple, a non-profit organization focused on raising awareness of pancreatic cancer as well as supporting patients and families affected by the disease and funding pancreatic cancer research efforts. Project Purple’s fundraising comes primarily from race participation across the country.
Cost is $15 for adults and $7 for the kids’ 1-mile run. Race packets may be picked up 45 minutes before the kids’ 1-mile start; registration closes at 8 a.m. the day of the race. Participants may register online at www.brookingshealth.org/SuperHero.
