BROOKINGS – To further develop the volunteer doula program for parents delivering their baby at New Beginnings Birth Center, Brookings Health System is hosting a Childbirth Professionals International Birth Doula workshop on Nov. 5 and 6.

Class instruction will be held in Brookings Hospital conference room A from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The workshop provides hands-on education for providing physical and emotional support to birthing women and their families. It is one step in meeting the requirements for becoming a volunteer doula at Brookings Health System.

The workshop is recommended for doulas, nurses, nursing students, lactation counselors, childbirth educators and other health care professionals. It will be led by Victoria Wakeman of Childbirth Professionals, a certified birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator and peer lactation consultant.

Class fees are $650 and include workshop materials and certification upon completion. Attendees may save $30 and pay $620 by submitting early-bird registration by Oct. 1. In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required to be worn during class. People interested in this workshop may register by visiting thechildbirthprofession.com/Wakeman.
