SIOUX FALLS – Earlier this month, Courtney Remick, a 21-year-old from Brookings, was chosen as the new Miss Siouxland.
The contest was held at the University of Sioux Falls, Jescke Fine Arts Center. The Miss Siouxland Competition featured 24 candidates from the Siouxland Area.
As Miss Siouxland, Remick will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to compete for Miss South Dakota in Brookings in May 2020. Currently a student at South Dakota State University, Courtney is majoring in Medical Laboratory Sciences and hopes to pursue a career in medical research.
During her year as Miss Siouxland, she will travel throughout the area advocating for her community service project, Feeling Safe During Emergencies, which helps to educate children on emergency responders and introduce them to emergency responders tools they use.
Callee Bauman Wacther, executive director of the Miss Siouxland Scholarship Foundation, commented on the new Miss Siouxland. “Miss Siouxland embodies the qualities a role model for young women and girls should have. She’s talented, ambitious and accomplished.”
Established in 2009, the Miss Siouxland Scholarship Foundation provides opportunities for young women to achieve their personal and professional ambitions. Candidates also participate in community service activities and develop leadership skills that help them excel in their chosen career and life goals. A 501c3 non-profit in the state of South Dakota and an affiliate of the Miss America Organization, the Miss Siouxland Scholarship Foundation has made available more than $6,000 in scholarships and in-kind funds to women throughout the state.
