Renner Dukes sweep Bullets

RENNER – The Dukes swept the Bullets in a 16U baseball doubleheader Monday, winning 3-0 and 8-1.

Brookings plays host to Sioux Falls East in a doubleheader Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Game 1

 Renner 3, Brookings 0

Manny Struck threw 6 2/3 innings of one-hit ball, striking out four batters and also walking four, to lead the Dukes past the Bullets.

Brookings starter Mason Bebensee also had a solid start on the mound, retiring 16 of the first 18 batters he faced. The two batters to reach did so via errors in the third inning, as Renner scored one run.

The Dukes’ Nars Sprenkle doubled with one out in the sixth to break up the no-hitter and TJ Free followed with a single – both players later scored to make it 3-0. Teegan Schlimgen had an RBI double with two away.

Bebensee allowed three runs – two earned – on three hits with three strikeouts and zero walks.

Kolby Weinberg singled for the Bullets.

Game 2

 Renner 8, Brookings 1

The Dukes used a five-run third inning to take control en route to completing the sweep.

Nate Sprenkle (three innings), Cam Johnson (three) and Teegan Schlimgen (one) combined on a four-hitter.

Trailing 1-0 after an inning, Brookings pulled even in the second.

Jeff Fuks walked with one out and Jaysen Williams followed with a double. Aidan Stewart plated Fuks with a groundout.

Tanner Huber was 1-for-2 and got hit by a pitch twice. Stewart and Mason Bebensee both added a single.
