VOLGA – State Rep. John Mills has submitted petitions, been certified by the Secretary of State as a candidate, and will be on the ballot for re-election this November.

A Republican, Mills has served District 4 (Grant, Deuel, rural Brookings and rural Codington counties) since being elected in November 2016.  In the House, he is on the Taxation and Commerce and Energy committees.

Mills and his wife Joy live on a farm near Volga. They have two grown children who are both married and five grandchildren all living in the area.

Mills says he has a broad range of business experience from decades of working in building construction, real estate development and property management and has strong connections to agriculture from his own farm and those of family and friends.

Mills and his wife are active members of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings, where he has served in a variety of roles including Sunday school teacher, elder, and congregation chair.

Over the years, he has held a number of other leadership roles including positions with the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce, the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota and serving as a district supervisor for the Brookings County Conservation District.

“Serving District 4 in the South Dakota House has been a privilege,” Mills said. “I want to continue to serve because I want to protect what we have, and work to make South Dakota better. Our Constitution, our freedoms and our opportunities all take vigilance to defend. Improving South Dakota takes all of us, but I believe that working together, we can make life here even better.”

Mills can be reached at 605-826-4290 or mills4sd@gmail.com.
