BROOKINGS – Items were taken from an unoccupied residence earlier this month, according to the Brookings Police.

The theft was reported after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and occurred in the 700 block of 13th Street West sometime over the last several weeks, said Assistant Chief Derrick Powers.

“No one had been residing there. There were still items in the residence,” Powers said.

No signs of forced entry were noted in the report, he added.

“Items within the residence were rummaged through. Items were also taken from the residence,” Powers said.

Those items included a couple of TVs and a portable fireplace.

“The owner was still trying to identify what was missing from the residence,” Powers said.

Total value exceeded $1,000, Powers said.

“Burglary, so that in itself is a felony,” he added.
