SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State senior Payton Richardson and junior Ashlynn Smith were named to the Summit League Volleyball Players to Watch List.
Richardson, a middle blocker, led the team in block assists (42), and also averaged 1.4 kills per set and hit higher than .300 in 11 matches.
Smith led the team in kills (214) and kills per set (2.55). The outside hitter tallied 10-or-more kills in nine matches, including six times in league play.
Preseason poll
After winning both the regular-season and tournament titles the last four seasons, Denver was picked as the league’s favorite in the preseason coaches poll. The Pioneers earned 63 points and seven first-place votes. North Dakota was picked second with 55 points and two first-place votes. Omaha received 44 points for third.
South Dakota (43) was selected fourth in the poll followed by Oral Roberts (33), IPFW (31), North Dakota State (31), South Dakota State (13) and Western Illinois (11).
