BROOKINGS – Tom Richter has taken a new job, according to the City of Brookings.
Richter, who has been the executive director of the Swiftel Center for years, was offered a position with VenuWorks, according to City Manager Paul Briseno.
“Tom Richter has served our community and the facility for over 20 years. We appreciate his commitment,” Briseno wrote in a release to the Register.
“Tom has been offered a position with the prior management firm’s corporate management, … which he has chosen to take. The City of Brookings wishes him well on his new endeavor. It’s assumed Tom will continue his community involvement through other venues,” Briseno wrote.
VenuWorks has managed the Swiftel Center for 20 years. Last month, the Brookings City Council approved a contract with Spectra Venue Management to run the Swiftel Center starting Aug. 1. Spectra offered to keep the current Swiftel staff, who were employees of VenuWorks.
“The City of Brookings values all employees of the Swiftel Center facility. The management (agreement) with Spectra guaranteed opportunities for every employee to transition over while maintaining their existing pay rate and similar benefits. More importantly, it granted resources to the existing team and greater economic opportunities for the community of Brookings,” Briseno wrote.
“The city of Brookings is focused on existing staff, selection of a new GM (general manager) with Spectra and progressing opportunities for the community,” Briseno wrote.
