Robert ‘Bob’ Derrick - Arlington

Robert “Bob” Paul Derrick, 71 of Arlington, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Lake Norden Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Norden.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Arlington United Methodist Church in Arlington with the Rev.Teresa Whetsel officiating. Burial is in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Monday.

Bob was born on Dec. 24, 1946, to Paul and Lorraine (Grace) Derrick.  He graduated from Arlington High School in 1966.  

He worked at the Red Owl Grocery Story, where he met Kay Buchholz.  In 1974, Bob married Kay who had four children.  

He was a cattle buyer at Willow Lake and De Smet.  Later he worked at Coast to Coast until his retirement.  Bob and Kay owned and operated The Trading Post in Arlington for many years.  

He was also a real estate/farm/household auctioneer.

Bob’s passion was traveling to gun shows with his brother-in-law Roger, where he bought, sold and traded guns and coins.  He loved to wheel and deal, visit with customers and other vendors. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favorite pastime was playing cards at family gatherings. He created the infamous “sock game” that he played with his grandkids.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kay;  four children, Mike (Reenie) Buchholz of Adrian, Minnesota, Rita (Ron) Henry of Lake Preston, Dan (Kathy) Buchholz of De Smet, Bert (Lisa) Buchholz of Brookings; and a sister Linda (John) Bunker of Arlington; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Rowbotham.
