Robert “Bob” Rumple died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo at the age of 86.
Robert Martin Rumple was born on Jan. 13, 1931. in Vienna to John and Dorothy (Durfey) Rumple.
Robert attended grammar school at Winsor 18 and later attended Bangor 8, both in Brookings County. He graduated from Sinai High School in 1949. After graduation, Robert worked a short time at the Sinai Elevator before joining the United States Air Force in August of 1949.
Robert would go on to serve his country for 21 years in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Master Sergeant Robert Rumple retired and was honorably discharged on Sept. 1, 1970. He moved his family to Glenburn, ND where he ran a successful automotive repair business. He later worked as a marine mechanic for Hensen’s Taxidermy and Marine in Minot, N.D.
Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing in N.D. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his six children, Jenny Uythoven of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jack (Patty) Harmon of Sandy Hook, Ky, William (Diane) Rumple of Arlington, James (Kathy) Rumple of Bismarck, N.D., Mitch (Kathy) Rumple of Fargo, N.D and Linda Hartley of Bossier City, La; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey Landauer of Brookings and Crystal Kennegieter of Willow Lake.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 39 years, Wilma L. (Bays) Rumple; a sister, Lois Rames; and two granddaughters, Sandy Hemming and Jamie Haupt.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m.. on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center in Fargo with visitation starting at 5 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery in Glenburn, N.D.
