Rodney Steven Hildebrandt, 57, of Bloomington, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on Aug. 5, 2017, at Oak Lake in Kerrick, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Graveside services will be at First Lutheran Cemetery, Brookings, at 10:30 a.m. Monday. A memorial service will be held Oct. 2 at Normandale Highlands United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Minnesota, at 7 p.m.

Rod was born October 14, 1959, in Brookings to Charles and Garnet (Hanson) Hildebrandt. He graduated from Brookings High School in 1977. Following high school, he lived in Brookings working at Falcon Plastics for a few years before moving to Huron.
He moved to the Minneapolis area in the mid-1980s and worked for SuperAmerica for many years. In 1995, he was employed with Trio Paper Supply in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked until the time of his death. On Oct. 1, 2011, he married Virginia Schnacky in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Rod was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and Oakland Athletics fan. He also bowled in many bowling leagues. He coached Little League Baseball and YMCA baseball teams. He enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sporting events and school programs. Rod always had a smile on his face, an infectious laugh, and a very dry sense of humor. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hildebrandt, Bloomington; his mother, Garnet Hildebrandt, Brookings; sister, Debora (William) Richardson, Afton, Iowa; nephew, Ian Richardson, Sioux City, Iowa; niece, Emma Richardson, Afton; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Karl) Johnson, Bloomington, and Judy (Jay) Gilchrist, Prior Lake, Minn.; four step-grandchildren; one uncle, Don Hildebrandt, Brookings; one aunt, Velda (Paul) Stanek, Springfield, Missouri; and many cousins.
Rod was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hildebrandt; his grandparents, three uncles and two aunts.
