Roger Carpenter, 77, of Brookings, died Friday, March 9, 2018.
Memorial services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Roger Carpenter was born on Oct. 17, 1940, in Volga, the son of Russell Ray and Clara Odella (Kroshaug) Carpenter. Roger attended high school up until the 11th-grade, after which he began work in the construction field.
In 1960, Roger married Verla Kracke in Ivanhoe, Minnesota and they made their first home in Brookings. Roger and Verla had two children.
Roger had been a long-time member of the Brookings community where he owned and operated a construction company along with a couple of pubs, the most recent being Carpy’s Pub.
Roger was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings.
Roger’s favorite past-times included; hunting and golfing and in his early life was playing softball, bowling and basketball.
Survivors include his wife, Verla Carpenter of Brookings; a daughter, Jody Carpenter of Brookings; a son, Michael Carpenter of Brookings; a grandson; two sisters, Delores Carpenter and Darlene Carpenter, both of Brookings and two special people, Brandon and Hunter Jensen of Brookings.
Roger was preceded in death by two sisters and one infant brother.
